Utility vehicles are a wide category. This classification includes golf carts on one end of the spectrum and armored SUVs on the other end. Utility vehicles are often specialized for a single function or a small range of functions. Examples include:

Standard BodiesA standard body utility truck has two compartments on the sides of the truck bed for storing tools and equipment. The center of the bed is empty just like that of a standard truck.
The standard body is the most common type of utility truck and is often used to carry heavy objects on its bed. The bed is constructed of aluminum for cost-effectiveness, weight savings, and rust avoidance. |
Landscape BodiesLandscape body trucks also lack side storage. This is removed to make way for a large dump truck-like bed.
Landscape bodies lack the hydraulic hoists that are used to tip out the contents of dump trucks. Instead, the contents of the dump truck-like bed are “dumped” by opening a door at the back of the bed and letting them fall out. |
Steel BodiesSteel body utility trucks are functionally identical to standard body utility trucks. The main difference between the two types of trucks is in their construction. Steel bodies use steel while standard bodies are made of aluminum.
|
Platform BodiesPlatform body utility trucks often have side storage removed in order to create space for a flatbed. These trucks are often used for the transportation of heavy equipment.
